Lemon Pudding

Ingredients

3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch
2 1/2 cups whole milk
3 extra large egg yolks, lightly beaten
2 tablespoons finely grated lemon
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 cup lemon juice
2 tablespoons unsalted butter at room temperature
Meringue
3/4 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
1/4 cup water
3 large egg whites
1/8 teaspoon white vinegar (or cream of tartar)
pinch salt

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar and cornstarch. Add the milk, egg yolks, zest, and salt and whisk until smooth. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
  2. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the citrus juice and butter. Strain into a large bowl.
  3. Divide the mixture into 6 serving dishes and let cool to room temperature. Refrigerate, for at least 3 hours.
  4. In a small saucepan with a Candy Thermometer bring to a boil the brown sugar and water. While the sugar is coming to the temperature of 238-240 degrees, start to whip the egg whites in a stand mixer on low speed. Once the sugar is nearly done turn the speed on the mixer up to medium-high and get the eggs to soft peaks. When the sugar is to temperature, carefully pour it along the side of the mixing bowl into the egg whites, while the mixer is still on medium speed. Once the sugar is all added, turn the mixer to high and let it beat until the meringue is room temperature, shiny and stiff peaks, about 8-10 minutes.
  5. Carefully add the meringue to the top. and use a fork to create the spikes on the top. or use a piping bag to create peaks.
  6. Use a propane torch or the smaller Butane Micro Torch used for cooking to toast the top of the meringue. Refrigerate before serving.

Glitter Spider Webs

The materials I used to make these Glitter Spider Webs were Elmer’s glue, purple glitter, parchment paper or wax paper, purple ribbon and felt spider stickers. I used parchment paper because that’s what I had at the time. You could use wax paper.
GlitterSpiderWebsMaterials
I first created my spider web using glue. See photo below for a visual step-by-step.
GlitterSpiderWebsStepsA
I sprinkled glitter – a generous amount -  on the glue web. Notice in the left part of the photo below, how the spider web is fully covered. I mean you can’t even see the white glue. I wanted these spider webs to be very glittery. I dumped the extra glitter onto a paper towel.
GlitterSpiderWebsStepsB
TIP:  I folded the paper towel and then put the extra glitter back into the glitter container. I didn’t want to waste any glitter.
GlitterSpiderWebsSaveExtraGlitter
I let the spider web dry for at least 24 hours. This step is important. The glue needs to be completely dry.
I slowly and carefully removed the spider web off of the parchment paper.
GlitterSpiderWebsStepsC
I attached the cute spider onto the web. The back of the spiders had an adhesive dot already attached. This made it easy to attach to the glitter spider web.

I used ribbon to hang the spider webs.

Crochet Turkey Coasters Ornaments

Santa's Belly Ornament

 Santa's Belly Ornament

To make this, you'll need:

  • square glass ornaments
  • black paint
  • white puffy paint
  • strips of red cardstock (mine are about 1/4"x4")

Coil the strips of paper around something thin - I wrapped mine around the end of a paint brush handle.

After making each coil, put them in the ornament - I didn't count how many I coiled, but once you've filled it up, you're good :)

Then, paint a black stripe around the center of the ornament (santa's belt). Once that's dry, use the puffy paint to draw a square (belt buckle) around the belt.

Finish it off with ribbon to hang it up.

Orange Peel Cleaner

Orange Peel Cleaner is great. :) I just started making some.
You save up all your orange peels. We eat so many we can fill it up quickly. If you need to save them up- freeze them till you need the peels.
Once you can fill a jar up with peels then pour in enough vinegar to cover them all. Make sure the lid is on tight.
Sake it up ever so often. I leave this on my window sill in my kitchen so I see it. Its rather pretty and makes me feel like Martha Stewart. :)
Shake it up- and let it sit for at LEAST 2 weeks. However the longer you let it sit the better. :)
Once you let it sit a while- the vinegar gets syrupy .
Then when you are ready to mix up your cleaner- you strain out all the liquid. Toss the orange peels in your compost or whatever you want to do with them.
Mix two parts water to one part vinegar/orange together. Put it in a spray bottle and use as a cleaner. Because of the citrus it is antibacterial :)
It smells heavenly!!
You can do this with limes, lemons and other citrus peels as well
